Hair Blog Journey 4: The halo braid

I twisted my hair at the first of the week, as usual, in the two stranded twists. I was talking to a friend of mine about it and shared with her that I did not particularly care for the way my hair looked in the double stranded twist. She asked me what type of hair I have and I told her thin, which she then shared with me was probably the reason it was not coming out the way I had hoped. She has thick hair and her twists always look great, as if she has a full head of hair. Mine leave a lot to be desired.

So, I wanted a new protective style to wear since I do not care for the twists in my hair. I am not sure if I just came across it, or if somehow the memory of it popped in to my head. But I decided I wanted to try out the halo braid. I think it is a very pretty braid, elegant, and it looks like the style could last for a while. I began googling tutorials for the halo braid and guess what, I found none.

Not one video for how to braid natural hair like mine into a halo braid, I did, however, find several tutorials using extensions, which is not what I am doing. Instead of getting the halo braid, I had to settle for the halo flat twist. Which looks good, but not as good in a way. I watched the tutorial several times, a couple of tutorials actually. Then it was time to try it out on myself. Needless to say, it did not go as planned.

This is what I wanted.

This is what I settled for.

This is what I got.

The bride of Frankenstein hair.

The funny thing is, is that neither tutorial was more than five minutes long. The women made it look so easy. I am sure there was some cutting and editing, but really, the tutorials always look effortless. I am sure the fact that I had not been using a mirror played a part as well, but really...

The next day I had an interview and there was no way I could wear that style to my interview. I tried doing the flat twist again, and again, and again, but finally I ran out of time and had to settle for something else.

It may not have been a flat twist, but it got the job done. I am not giving up on the flat twist or the halo braid though. I am hoping my daughter will let me practice on her hair.
