Halo Twist Part 2: Hair Journey Blog 5

I spent the day sweating and working out and my hair became itchy so I decided to go ahead and wash it today and do my protective style for the week. I ran out of co-wash last week and decided to get something new to wash my hair and I found Shea Moisture at Wal-mart!!

Since I am trying a new product, I am going to go ahead and run down the steps that I used to wash, seal, and style my hair today.

1. Before washing my hair, I took a mixture of olive oil, coconut oil, and tea tree oil (because my scalp was itching), and rubbed it through my hair. I then placed a shower cap over it. At first, I was not going to deep condition my hair, but then I realized I needed to do my daughter's hair anyway so I put the oil on my hair, threw on a shower cap and got to work on her for over an hour.

2. I washed my hair with Shea Moisture. I will admit that at first I was hesitant about spending so much money on shampoo. The bottle is really small compared to the size of other shampoo bottles. However, after checking out the ingredients, most of which are natural oils and plus the shampoo does not contain sulfates, I decided I would go ahead and get it. I am not disappointed, so far. The bottle may be small, but the shampoo is so thick you do not have to use as much and it lathers really well. I used it on my daughter and she felt a difference in her scalp and the amount of moisture it had right away. I enjoyed the way it lathered in my hair since the co-wash I use by Pantene Pro-V does not lather at all.

3. After washing and rinsing my hair, I applied my Aussie conditioner for about five minutes and detangled my hair with a wide toothed comb.

4. I rinsed out my hair and squeezed out some of the excess water. I then put more of the oil mixture on my hair. (I now have tea tree oil in my usual oil mix, is this okay to stay in your hair for extended periods of time? If anyone knows otherwise please comment below. )

5. If you have seen my other halo twist post, then you know that my first attempt was a bust. I even tried the do again in my daughter's hair, and while it came out better, it was nothing to brag about. She is such a good sport though and said she liked it, mostly because she did not want me to let it out and redo it again, lol. Before doing my own hair, I decided to revisit the two tutorials I had seen, and then it finally clicked for me and I was able to do my own hair and it looks much better.

My skin has been breaking out a lot recently, I think it is because of all the oil I am using, but I am not sure. I could use a good face cleaning regimen, product suggestions, etc.

Below are links to the two halo twist tutorials I used.
