Braiding: Hair Journey Blog 6

I know it's been a while since my last blog post; I recently got a job and that has been taking up quite a bit of my time. I may blog about that later. But tonight, I want to talk about braiding. I have been trying to braid for years. My daughter will be 12 years old next week and I have never cornrowed her hair because I did not know how. I usually spent three or so hours putting single braids in her hair because I did not learn the art of cornrowing. We even cut my youngest's hair off because we did not think I could take care of it since I did not know how to cornrow.

Well, guess who learned to cornrow: ME! I found the halo twist tutorial because I did not know how to braid, and now, with any luck, I'll actually be able to do the halo BRAID correctly.

I was practicing braiding my son's hair, and the braids were not coming out quite right because his hair seemed so spaced out I skipped areas and did not grab hair each time. Then when it came time to do the last braid, I just decided to keep grabbing hair and see what happened. It was like something in my brain clicked and all of a sudden I knew what to do.

The braid that started it all.
I do not know if you can see how messed up the other braids are in this pic, but that last one was on point. I do not usually like braids, per say, but now that I know how to braid, I cannot wait to practice. My daughter is doing the hair challenge with me and I decided that Sundays would be our wash days. So today, after I washed and conditioned her hair, etc. etc. I put it into braids for her protective style.

We wound up putting it into a pony tail in the back.

I went swimming on Wednesday so I already washed and conditioned my hair on Wednesday, but today I took it out of the flat twists I had it in, moisturized it with water and then sealed it with my Bouncy Curls Miracle Butter cream and braided my hair into four plaits.

It may seem silly and small, but I cannot wait to see what hairdos I can do now that I know how to cornrow. I may even tackle some of the other braids I have been seeing around.
