The Biggest Loser Competition 2013
This past
Saturday was the start of the Biggest Loser Competition my church is hosting.
We had 32 people sign up. The winner gets a cash prize of $640; so yeah, I
signed up.
When I
walked in, I figured I would be a shoe in as the winner. I have been trying to eat
strictly primal for about 3 months now. I am not always successful, but I have
been losing about 5 pounds a month, which in my book is pretty good. The competition
is for 9 weeks, and I figure if I can stick with this primal thing hard, it
should be a cake walk.
However,
when I got to the meeting for the first weigh in, Dr. Thomas Stetson of Columbia Family Chiropractic
was giving everyone pointers. He basically gave away my secrets. He talked
about how bad grains and sugar are for our bodies and went into detail about
the science behind chiropractors.
For me, I
think the most memorable piece is when he talked about chicken nuggets; you
know the stuff McDonald’s sells as all white meat chicken. Well, he showed a
picture of pink slime and said that chicken nuggets were nothing more than
bleached pink slime. “Have you ever seen a round chicken?”
It wouldn’t
have been so bad if I hadn’t eaten chicken nuggets the week before; gross. (My
husband and I actually had a conversation about how good the chicken nuggets
were; the best thing on the menu. Note: We were not at McDonalds.)
Anyway,
after the weigh in and presentation by Dr. Stetson, we split up into groups of
5 by color for the fitness challenge. My team is the yellow team. Our competition
that day was ball slams. We had ten pound medicine balls and we had to raise
them over our heads and slam them to the floor. The team that did the most ball
slams in 20 minutes was the winner.
Being one of
the youngest members of our team, and since I used to be very physically
active. I figured I would be one of the greatest assets to our team. Not the
case. Out of everyone, I completed the least amount of ball slams, but I may
have done it the fastest. In any event, I really didn’t bring much to the table
that day. I blame it on the fact that I had been lifting weights a few days
before.
Tomorrow we
have another weigh in and fitness challenge. I haven’t really exercised all
week and I wanted to lift weights again today. But now I am worried that if I
work out today, I will suck again tomorrow. What to do?
