Created in the Image of God
Today, when I held my son as he slept, I could not stop
looking at him. He is so beautiful to me. The more I looked at him, I realized,
he looks like me. Maybe that is why I can’t stop staring. I know my face; I see
it in the mirror every morning. And when I look at his face, I can see myself.
But looking at him is so much better than looking at myself, because he is my
son, my child, and he is wonderful simply because he is my son. It made me
think about God, and how the Bible says we were created in His image. People
say it’s not because we look like Him exactly, but because we have some of His
attributes. I disagree. Jesus took the form of a man, and became a man. I
believe this form is not so far from God after all. God created us in His
image; He calls us His children. When He looks down from heaven, He sees us.
And when He first created us, He said what He created was good. I think it
looked good to Him, and it pleased Him to look on all that He had created. It
pleased God to look on us. He walked in the garden with Adam, for conversation,
yeah, but also to look upon His creation.
Things may be messed up in this world right now, but there
will come a day when the glory of the Lord will be restored to His creation.
Revelation says there will be a new heaven and a new earth untainted by the sin
of this world. What a marvelous day. A day free from the hustle and bustle we
call life. A day where we can spend hours just
looking at God’s creation.
